HCMC – Representatives of Philippine, Indonesian and Cambodian travel associations have said that they highly value Can Tho City’s tourism and want to launch tours to the Mekong Delta city.

Speaking at a meeting of the associations with Can Tho’s government and departments on September 6 after taking part in a two-day famtrip to the city, a representative of the Cambodian travel agency said Can Tho is a potential destination for international visitors, including those from Southeast Asia.

However, the destination is not well known to international travelers, said the representative, the local media reported.

Echoing the view, the Indonesian side said Can Tho holds tourism potential but remains little known among Indonesian visitors. The representative expected the city to open Halal-certificated restaurants to attract Indonesian tourists and launch direct air services to Indonesia.

After the famtrip, a representative of the Philippine travel association also appreciated the city’s tourism services and products.

The group of representatives expected Can Tho City to further develop its means of transport, especially railways connecting with the city’s neighboring areas.

At the meeting, Can Tho’s Vice Chairman Nguyen Thuc Hien introduced the city’s tourism development programs to the group and affirmed that Can Tho is moving toward becoming a tourism city.

The city will focus on leisure travel, spiritual travel and wellness retreats, and open more air routes to these nations, said Hien, adding that the city expects to welcome many groups of visitors from Indonesia, Cambodia and the Philippines.
