HCMC – State President Luong Cuong officially welcomed King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi today, November 12. This marks the first visit by a Jordanian head of state to Vietnam and the first high-level state exchange between the two countries since they established diplomatic relations.
The visit coincides with the 45th anniversary of Vietnam–Jordan diplomatic ties and is expected to open a new phase of cooperation. Following the welcome ceremony, the two leaders held bilateral talks to review past collaboration and discuss future cooperation.

Since establishing diplomatic relations on August 9, 1980, Vietnam and Jordan have steadily strengthened their ties. During a meeting in June 2025 at the UN Ocean Summit in Nice, France, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to broad-based cooperation with Jordan. King Abdullah II praised Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements and growth.
The two sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges to build political trust and explore agreements on trade, investment, and other sectors. Bilateral trade reached nearly US$190 million in 2024, with targets to reach US$500 million by 2030 and US$1 billion by 2035.

Cooperation is also expanding in food security, Halal industry development—including training, production, processing, packaging, distribution, and mutual recognition of Halal certification—and education. Both countries aim to develop high-quality human resources in information technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and green energy.
Vietnam and Jordan will continue coordinating at international forums and organizations. King Abdullah II’s visit is expected to mark a historic milestone, laying the foundation for strengthened bilateral ties and future collaboration across sectors of mutual interest.
