HCMC – Storm Kajiki has left seven people dead, one missing, and 34 injured, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

The storm made landfall in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces, bringing winds of up to level 10, gusting to level 15, and heavy rainfall across the north-central region, the Red River Delta, and northern midlands.

Initial data showed 15 houses collapsed, while 8,719 houses, 63 schools, and eight healthcare facilities were damaged. Around 3,600 homes were flooded. More than 81,500 hectares of rice fields, 4,500 hectares of crops, and 1,690 hectares of aquaculture farms were submerged. Nearly 1.6 million households lost power, and communication services were disrupted in multiple areas.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed local authorities in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and other affected provinces to mobilize resources to reach isolated areas, search for missing people, and treat the injured.

Authorities were told to repair damaged houses, provide temporary shelters, and supply food, water, and essentials to affected families. Schools and medical facilities must be restored by August 30 to avoid disruption to education and healthcare.

The minister of science and technology has been instructed to work with telecom providers to restore services. The minister of construction is coordinating efforts to repair damaged roads and ensure safe, uninterrupted transportation for residents and relief operations.
