Storm kills six, injures over 100

HCMC – Noul, the fifth tropical storm to hit Vietnam this year, killed six people in three central provinces, injured 112 others, damaged over 22,000 houses and completely destroyed 13 other houses as of 5 p.m. on September 20.

According to the National Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, Thua Thien-Hue reported four deaths, while Quang Tri and Ha Tinh recorded one fatality each due to the storm.

The storm, packing winds at level 8-9, gusting at level 11, led to the collapse of more than 22,700 houses and blew off their roofs, chiefly in Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Tri, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh. Moreover, it wreaked havoc on 36 schools, with 20 in Thua Thien-Hue.

Noul also knocked down 217 electricity poles in Thua Thien-Hue, causing a host of local households to suffer from a power blackout. Many streets in the center of Hue City were also blocked by fallen trees.

Moreover, nearly 4,000 hectares of paddy and plants and 105 hectares of aquatic farming land were damaged by Storm No.5.
