HCMC – The prime minister has approved in principle the establishment of a new airline by Sun PhuQuoc Aviation Company Limited, a subsidiary of Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group, said local media reports.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) will operate scheduled and charter flights to connect travelers with major tourism and financial centers in Vietnam and internationally.
Under the approved plan, SPA will have a fleet of 31 aircraft by 2030, and a total investment of VND2.5 trillion, or nearly US$99 million.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways is expected to launch its maiden flight in the fourth quarter of this year.
In addition to Sun PhuQuoc Airways, Sun Group also operates Sun Air, a charter airline offering private jet services for high-end travelers.
Vietnam currently has six airlines operating regular commercial flights: Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, Bamboo Airways, Vietravel Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and Vasco.
