Sunflower fields in Nghia Lam Commune, Nghe An Province, are reaching their peak bloom, covering dozens of hectares in bright yellow and drawing many visitors, especially young people, in the final weeks of the year.

In mid-December, sunflower hills at the TH Farm complex in Nghe An began blooming all at once, leading to many tourists coming and taking photos. Roads to the fields have become busier from early morning, with groups of friends, families, and couples gathering to explore the area.

Under mild winter sunlight, rows of sunflowers stretch across the landscape, their blooms facing the sun and creating a striking contrast against the pale blue sky. The site has long been a popular destination in Nghe An and is closely associated with TH’s closed-loop dairy production model.

Beyond tourism, sunflower fields serve a vital function in agriculture. Alongside grass, corn, sorghum, and soybeans, sunflowers are cultivated as feed for nearly 70,000 dairy cows as part of a US$1.2-billion high-tech dairy farming and milk processing project.

Designated photo spots are arranged throughout the fields for visitors

These crops are fermented and combined with 10 to 16 other ingredients to create feed for the herd. Covering a total cultivation area of 8,100 hectares, sunflowers, mombasa grass, corn, and sorghum enable TH to be mostly self-sufficient in providing roughage. About 2,000 tons of feed are mixed daily at the company’s feed centers and distributed to its barns.

The sunflower fields attract not only local residents but also visitors from neighboring provinces such as Thanh Hoa and Ha Tinh, as well as Hanoi and other localities. Some travel hundreds of kilometers to see the fields in person.

Visitors move along upgraded farm paths, making it easier to explore the fields and take photos

Local residents say the sunflower season in Nghia Lam usually starts in December and goes through January. Visitor numbers grow each year during the bloom, bringing rare activity to an area normally known for its quiet rural setting. Admission and parking at the site are free, which helps make it popular among students and young travelers.
