HCMC – Vietnam has secured a grant of over US$3.34 million from Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) to advance circular economy and combat climate change, said Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Do Thanh Trung.
The information was released at the recent signing ceremony of the project document on replicating the eco-industrial park approach to promote circular economy in Vietnam.
According to Trung, the funding will support industrial zones in transitioning to a cleaner production model, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and waste, while enhancing climate change adaptation capabilities.
These efforts are expected to not only protect the environment but also enhance business competitiveness and contribute to Vietnam’s green and sustainable development goals.
Deputy Minister Trung highlighted the importance of leveraging Vietnam’s cooperation with Switzerland in technology, finance, and sustainable urban development to foster innovation, build a modern economy, and strengthen the nation’s global competitiveness.
Over the past 30 years, Switzerland has provided Vietnam with nearly US$687 million in support through SECO, focusing primarily on economic development and enhancing industrial competitiveness.
Switzerland is also among Vietnam’s top 20 foreign investors, with total investments exceeding US$2.1 billion. These investments have centered on medium- and large-scale projects, primarily in the processing industry within industrial zones.
Through SECO’s assistance, Vietnam has successfully transformed four industrial zones into sustainable models and is currently transitioning three additional zones, marking significant progress toward a sustainable industrial sector.
