Express railway project in high gear

Several Vietnamese businesses have expressed interest in the development of a high-speed railway that connects the north and the south of the nation. To realize this colossal project, they will face significant challenges in human resources, technology, and finance, but if they don’t take the first step, there would be no progress, said Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Thai, vice chairman of the Railway Economy and Transport Association, in an interview with The Saigon Times. The Saigon Times: Vietnam has recently approved the policy for investment in the North-South high-speed railway project. What do you think about this decision? Will this project fuel economic growth when it is put into operation? Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Thai: Investment in the North-South high-speed railway project is essential to meet the growing transport demand in the future and ensure the harmonious, sustainable development of various transport modes. It will also facilitate urban restructuring and the distribution of population and labor along the North-South corridor, thus enhancing the competitiveness of the economy.
