HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presided over the inauguration of Terminal T3 at Tan Son Nhat International Airport this morning April 19, marking the first among 80 major projects being launched to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and the reunification of the nation on April 30.
The groundbreaking and inauguration of these projects, overseen by the Prime Minister, were conducted both in-person and online.
According to the Ministry of Construction, the 80 projects, which cost a combined VND445 trillion, include 40 infrastructure projects, 12 industrial and civil construction projects, 12 educational projects, nine cultural and social initiatives, five public health projects, and two irrigation schemes.
Of the total, VND305 trillion is allocated for new projects, while VND140 trillion is for completed ones. The Government will contribute VND185 trillion, with the remainder funded by the private sector.
In HCMC, six projects were inaugurated or launched, including the new terminal at Tan Son Nhat airport, the Tran Quoc Hoan-Cong Hoa road link, the Ben Luc-Long Thanh expressway, Hoc Mon General Hospital, the Can Gio tourism development project, and Ring Road 2 construction.
PM Chinh also inspected the operation of Terminal T3 and attended the unveiling of a pilot project for biometric and electronic identification for air travel.
The new terminal, the largest domestic terminal in the country, is capable of handling 20 million passengers annually, increasing the airport’s total capacity to 50 million.
The project, which began in late 2022, has an investment of nearly VND11,000 billion. The facility spans 112,500 square meters across one underground floor and four above-ground floors, and includes a multi-story parking building, elevated road systems, and aircraft stands. The terminal features 27 boarding gates, six departure baggage handling areas, and 10 arrival baggage claim islands.
