HCMC — The Australian Consulate General in HCMC on March 24 launched the Taste of Australia 2026 program, which will run through late April and involve nearly 90 partners from Australia and Vietnam.

The program serves as a platform to build business links, strengthen cultural exchange, and connect Vietnamese consumers and businesses with premium Australian products available in the local market, Australian Consul General Sarah Hooper said at the event.

She said such events also highlight the benefits of open, stable and rules-based trade between the two countries, helping ensure the quality, safety and availability of products in both markets.

“This program is more than a food festival,” she said, describing it as a way to connect businesses and communities while showcasing Australian produce alongside Vietnamese cuisine and culture.

This year’s program features Chef Sam Tran as its champion, the first woman to take on the role. She will lead culinary activities from the media launch through to the Grand Gala on April 18.

A restaurant promotion campaign will run from March 28 to April 26 across 11 venues in HCMC, offering dishes made with Australian ingredients.

The Taste of Australia Expo on April 18 at The Reverie Saigon will be open to the public, allowing visitors to sample products, meet suppliers and explore education opportunities. The same day will conclude with an invitation-only gala attended by business leaders, government representatives and media.

Hooper said food plays a role in strengthening ties between the two countries, helping build connections across cultures and supporting growing bilateral relations.

Launched in 2016, the program has hosted nearly 90 events and involved more than 420 partners, attracting around 11,500 participants, according to organizers.

Bilateral trade between Vietnam and Australia exceeded A$22 billion in 2024, reflecting expanding economic ties. The event also marks two years since the establishment of the Australia–Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has broadened cooperation across trade, investment, education and innovation, according to the Australian Consulate General in HCMC.
