HCMC – The tax authority has proposed revoking the business registration certificate of AIS American International Education Joint Stock Company, the owner of American International School Vietnam (AISVN) in HCMC, due to its overdue tax debt of VND100 billion.

The tax office in charge of Nha Be District and District 7 has written to the HCMC People’s Committee proposing shutting down AISVN, which provides primary, secondary, and high school education services, by taking back its business registration certificate.

Nguyen Van Thien, head of the tax office, said the tax office had taken multiple measures, including deducting money from AISVN’s bank account, prohibiting the company from using invoices, and suspending overseas travels by AISVN leaders, but the tax debt had not been settled.

AISVN was forced on July 1 to suspend operations for 12 months as the school failed to meet operating requirements.

The HCMC Department of Education and Training said that up till now, AISVN had not been qualified to resume operations. The number of teachers decreased from 400 to 28, and the position of the school principal remains vacant.

Established in Nha Be District in 2006, AISVN had more than 1,310 students during the previous school year.

In July 2023, parents of many students asked the school for tuition fee refunds. Until March 18, all classes stopped due to the absence of a substantial number of teachers.
