HCMC – The Vietnam Expressway Authority (VNEA) has announced plans to prioritize the construction of temporary rest areas this year along the North-South Expressway, while simultaneously preparing for the official commencement of permanent facilities.

The Ministry of Transport is currently overseing investment procedures for 24 rest areas on the eastern section of the North-South Expressway (CT.01).

Consulting package contractor selection has been completed for 21 out of the 24 rest areas. Legal procedures and investment plans for the remaining three rest areas, including La Son-Hoa Lien, Dao Ca Tunnel, and My Thuan-Can Tho, are under review.

For the eight out of 10 rest areas planned for the 2017-2020 period, the Ministry of Transport aims to ask for bids in May 2020 and complete contractor selection by June. These rest areas will be located along various sections of the expressway, including Mai Son-National Highway 45, Nghi Son-Dien Chau, Dien Chau-Bai Vot, Nha Trang-Cam Lam, Cam Lam-Vinh Hao, Vinh Hao-Phan Thiet (two rest areas) and Phan Thiet-Dau Giay.

Following contractor selection, the project management board will collaborate with contractors to prioritize the construction of temporary rest areas to accommodate passenger needs until permanent facilities are completed.

It is planned to have five temporary rest areas operational by May, with an additional three rest areas expected by October. Once the temporary rest area on National Highway 45-Nghi Son is available, all operational sections of the North-South Expressway will be equipped with rest areas by November.
