HCMC – Ninh Binh authorities ordered the evacuation of 55,000 residents from flood-prone areas in Gia Vien and Nho Quan districts as the Hoang Long River is swelling fast, according to the local media.

Pham Quang Ngoc, chairman of the Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee, issued the evacuation order this afternoon, September 12.

As a result, around 12,600 households with about 55,000 members from 12 communes in the Hoang Long River flood diversion area were evacuated.

As of 4 p.m. the same day, water levels of the Hoang Long River in Ben De, Gia Vien District, had exceeded the flood alert level by one meter and just 0.3 meter short of the discharge threshold. The river’s water level is forecast to keep rising tonight.

Due to typhoon Yagi, around 1,000 homes in Ninh Binh Province have been inundated in recent days. The hardest-hit area is Kenh Ga Village in Gia Thinh Commune, Gia Vien District, where 600 households are flooded to a depth of one to two meters.
