HCMC – Swedish food packaging giant Tetra Pak has inaugurated the second phase of its aseptic carton factory in HCMC, raising its total investment in Vietnam to 217 million euros and reinforcing its commitment to the country’s investment climate and green growth goals.
Located in the VSIP II-A industrial park in Vinh Tan Ward, the upgraded facility features advanced technologies and added production capacity, following a 97-million-euro investment for phase two. The plant now boasts total annual output of over 30 billion cartons in 15 new formats.
More than 55% of production will serve the domestic market, with the remainder exported to key regional economies including Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand. Tetra Pak said this expansion would support Vietnam’s food and beverage sector in strengthening local supply chains and enhancing self-reliance.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on July 3, Adolfo Orive, chairman and CEO of Tetra Pak, said the expansion reflects the company’s long-term commitment to Asia-Pacific, the world’s fastest-growing F&B market, projected to reach US$900 billion by 2028. He noted that Vietnam plays an increasingly vital role in the region’s supply chain thanks to its strategic location and efficient logistics, with delivery times from the plant ranging from just seven to 10 days.
“The factory not only enhances our production capacity but also demonstrates our confidence in Vietnam’s future. With innovation, world-class production, and sustainable practices, we aim to accompany Vietnam and the region in their growth journey,” Orive said.
At the event, Bui Minh Thanh, vice chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, said Tetra Pak’s continued investment is a testament to the strong connection between foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises and Vietnam’s development, particularly in food processing and technological innovation. He added that the project aligns with Vietnam and Sweden’s upgraded strategic partnership in science, technology, and innovation.
“This expansion not only promotes sustainable growth but also creates high-skilled jobs, helping local workers access advanced technologies and improve competitiveness,” Thanh noted. “It highlights the benefits of public-private partnerships in developing a quality workforce and elevating Vietnam’s position in the global value chain.”
Since its launch in 2019, Tetra Pak’s Vietnam factory has employed over 350 workers. It was one of the first in the country to achieve LEED Version 4 Gold certification, a global green building standard. The plant operates under a World Class Manufacturing system, utilizing artificial intelligence for quality control and high levels of automation.
