HCMC – Six people, with four of them holding Vietnamese passports, were found dead at a luxury hotel in central Bangkok yesterday evening, July 16, with Thai authorities saying they were murdered.
Thai police said the case occurred at the five-star Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Pathum Wan District, Bangkok, according to foreign media.
The initial investigation confirmed that among the victims were two Vietnamese Americans and four Vietnamese nationals. They were three men aged 37, 49, and 55, and three women aged 46, 47, and 56.
No bruises were found on the bodies of the victims. Tuoi Tre newspaper quoted Thai authorities as saying that they might have died from poisoning.
Upon receiving information regarding the incident, on the evening of July 16, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung and embassy officials immediately went to the scene. Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin came to the scene of the incident.
Currently, the ambassador and embassy officials are closely coordinating with Thai authorities and relevant units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam to closely monitor the incident, clarify information, determine the victims’ identities, and stand ready to take necessary measures to protect Vietnamese citizens.
