HCMC – Nghi Son 2 BOT thermal power plant, with a total cost of US$2.8 billion, was put into operation in Thanh Hoa Province on August 28.

The power station, which got off the ground in Nghi Son Town in the province in July 2018, has two generators with a total designed capacity of 1,330 megawatts, according to Nghi Son 2 Power Company, the investor of the plant.

This is the second largest foreign-invested project in the northern province. South Korea’s KEPCO contributed 50% to its total capital, while 40% came from Japan’s Marubeni and the remaining 10% from Tohuku, also a Japanese firm.

Once in place, the Nghi Son 2 BOT thermal power plant will annually provide the national grid with some 7.8 billion kWh of power, supplying electricity to some six million households, the local media reported.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the plant, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh said the thermal power facility resulted from the partnership between the Governments of Vietnam, Japan and South Korea. The project will play a key role in boosting the growth of the Nghi Son economic zone and the socioeconomic development in the province.

In addition, the plant will help ensure national power security, the deputy prime minister added.
