HCMC – Trinh Van Chien, former secretary of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, is facing alleged charges of misconduct in connection with the Hac Thanh Tower construction project.

The Thanh Hoa police on December 29 initiated legal proceedings and imposed a residence restriction on Chien for alleged charges of violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing loss and waste.

The police also searched his residence at around 7 p.m. last night, according to the VnExpress news site.

Also related to the case, Nguyen Dinh Xung, former chairman of the Thanh Hoa People’s Committee, is facing the same charges as Chien. In October, both Xung and Chien were evaluated by the Party Central Committee as exhibiting degradation in political ideology, morality and lifestyle. Chien was then expelled from all Party positions.

In 2022, the police arrested Dinh Cam Van, former director of the Thanh Hoa Department of Finance, Nguyen Ba Hung, the department’s former deputy director, and Van Xuan Hung, former head of the Property Management and Pricing Division at the department, and many others.
