Situated in the lush green mountains of northwestern Vietnam, the seven-tiered Chieng Khoa Waterfall cascades in a white torrent day and night, forming emerald green lakes at each tier and creating a great natural landscape.
Chieng Khoa Waterfall, also known as Na Tra or May Waterfall, is in Chieng Khoa Commune, Van Ho District, Son La Province. It is about 20 kilometers from the center of Moc Chau Town. The road to the waterfall features stunning landscapes and a cool mountainous atmosphere, offering visitors unique experiences and the opportunity to enjoy natural scenery. Although the road is spacious and easy to travel, it has dangerous bends which only experienced drivers can negotiate.
Surrounded by lush greenery and rich primary vegetation, the waterfall possesses a fresh and pleasant atmosphere. Moreover, as a newly discovered destination, Chieng Khoa Waterfall retains its pristine beauty. The waterfall has seven tiers, with each being five to seven meters high, cascading into emerald green lakes at the base of each level, and creating a picturesque scene. Visitors can swim, kayak, row a bamboo raft, enjoy the scenery, breathe in fresh air, and immerse themselves in nature. Additionally, camping is a popular activity among visitors.
Chieng Khoa Waterfall has a different beauty in each season. From March to May, the red silk cotton flowers (scientifically called Bombax ceiba) begin to bloom, the weather is pleasant, and the water flow is gentle and clear. During the rainy season from June to August, the cascading water becomes powerful, spraying white foam and creating a majestic scene in the mountains of Moc Chau. From September to December, the weather is cool and slightly chilly, with little rain, making it convenient for travel and outdoor activities. After visiting the waterfall, tourists can also enjoy the unique northwest cuisine.
