HCMC – Toll collection will begin at 10:00 p.m. today, March 2, on five sections of the eastern North–South Expressway, according to the Department for Roads of Vietnam.

These expressway sections were developed in the 2017–2020 phase of the North–South Expressway project. They are Mai Son–National Highway 45, National Highway 45–Nghi Son, Nghi Son–Dien Chau, Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet, and Phan Thiet–Dau Giay.

Tolls will be collected through a non-stop electronic toll collection (ETC) system. Entry points will use multi-lane free-flow ETC without barriers, while exits will operate single-lane ETC with barriers. No manual cash toll lanes will be provided.

On the Phan Thiet–Dau Giay section, toll rates range from VND1,300 to VND5,200 per kilometer, depending on vehicle type.

For the remaining four sections—Mai Son–National Highway 45, National Highway 45–Nghi Son, Nghi Son–Dien Chau, and Vinh Hao–Phan Thiet—rates range from VND900 to VND3,600 per kilometer.

Vehicle owners are required to install ETC tags and ensure sufficient balance in electronic payment accounts before entering the expressways.

Drivers must comply with traffic signs and instructions from on-site authorities. Automatic vehicle weighing systems have been installed at expressway entrances. Overloaded vehicles will be detected by the system and denied access.

The State-operated toll system will be integrated with other tolled expressway sections managed by entities such as the Vietnam Expressway Corporation, along with BOT road firms and private investors.

During the initial operation phase, system performance will be assessed using key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify and address technical issues. A task force has been assigned to operate around the clock to handle incidents and ensure uninterrupted toll collection.
