HCMC— Toll discounts will continue for vehicles located near build-operate-transfer (BOT) toll stations after administrative boundary changes, according to the Department for Roads of Vietnam.
The Ministry of Transport, now merged into the Ministry of Construction, approved a plan to maintain toll reductions for 41 BOT projects nationwide.
The decision followed concerns raised by local authorities and BOT investors after district and commune-level administrative units were reorganized. The reclassification affected which areas qualified for toll discounts.
Under the policy, vehicles within five kilometers of a toll station on a main BOT route are eligible for discounts. For bypass roads or special projects, the radius may extend up to 10 kilometers, depending on the station’s financial structure and local conditions.
The Department for Roads of Vietnam has instructed project investors and operators to coordinate with local authorities to review and update eligible vehicle lists. This includes aligning new administrative names with previous ones and verifying information through the national resident database.
Provincial governments are also expected to assist in verifying data and maintaining order at toll stations during the review process.
The policy aims to ensure financial feasibility for BOT projects while addressing concerns from residents and maintaining stability at toll collection points.
