Tornado, hailstorm hit Nghe An

HCMC – Last weekend, border communes in the upland district of Ky Son in Nghe An Province experienced a tornado and hailstorm for more than 20 minutes, injuring one person and damaging houses and crops.

At around 5:00 p.m. on April 14, a tornado accompanied by hail swept through the communes of Bao Thang, Bao Nam, Huoi Tu of Ky Son District, resulting in some areas covered by a 3-cm thickness of hailstone.

Torrential rain caused one house to collapse leaving one person injured, while some households suffered roof collapses and fallen walls.

Previously, Huoi Tu and Muong Luong communes also witnessed a tornado and hailstorm for 15 minutes, leaving 20 houses and crops in the area severely damaged.

Ky Son authorities said they will provide aid to those whose houses collapsed to help them stabilize their lives.

Hail usually occurs in the northern and central regions during a transitional period from hot to cold weather and from cold to hot weather, falling in the September-November and March-May periods.
