Traffic accidents drop during Tet holiday

HCMC – The number of people requiring medical treatment, emergency care and hospitalization, and that of fatalities due to traffic accidents dropped during the Tet holiday compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data.

The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management under the Ministry of Health reported that from 7 a.m. on January 31 to 7 a.m. on February 1, around 3,700 people received medical attention for traffic-related injuries.

This brought the total number of cases during Tet (January 25 to February 1) to 24,054, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

A total of 1,473 patients required hospitalization and inpatient monitoring for suspected traffic accident injuries, raising the total to 9,755 over the holiday period.

Fatalities linked to traffic accidents during the seven days reached 159. As of the morning of February 1, 5,073 patients remained under treatment at medical facilities for traffic-related injuries.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of medical examinations and emergency cases related to traffic accidents declined by 8.9%.

Hospitalizations for treatment and monitoring fell by 11.1%, while suspected traffic accident-related fatalities dropped by 28%.

Pre-hospital deaths decreased by 45.2%, and in-hospital deaths declined by 9.4%.
