HCMC – The country saw 41 traffic accidents on the first two days of the 2022 New Year holiday, killing 27 people and injuring 25 others, according to data from the National Traffic Safety Committee.
The number of the traffic accidents inched down one case against the same period last year, while the death toll rose by three people year-on-year.
Twenty traffic accidents, mainly road mishaps, occurred on January 2, claiming the lives of 12 people and injuring 13 others. On January 1, the country saw 21 traffic accidents occur, killing 15 people and injuring 12 others.
On January 2, the traffic police of 63 cities and provinces handled more than 5,930 traffic violation cases, imposing fines totaling over VND5.9 billion, impounding 31 cars and 753 motorcycles and revoking 368 driving licenses. Over 280 drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol.
In addition, five violations were recorded on expressways, with fines totaling VND12.5 million, the local media reported.
