HCMC – Tran De Commune is being planned as a key coastal economic center of Can Tho City, thanks to its long coastline, existing infrastructure, and the development of an international deep-water port.

Following administrative restructuring, Tran De now has a 12-kilometer stretch of coastline and borders two estuaries, including Tran De and My Thanh.

A number of major projects are being developed in the area, including the Tran De Industrial Park, Mo O fish port, a coastal economic-trade zone, dedicated tourism routes, and a segment of the Chau Doc–Can Tho–Soc Trang Expressway passing through the commune.

The deep-water port project in Tran De has been listed by the Government as a special seaport, which is expected to serve as a key maritime gateway for the Mekong Delta region.

The project spans more than 4,435 hectares, including a 4,000-hectare logistics zone and a 435-hectare offshore terminal area. The port’s sea-crossing wharf will stretch 17.8 kilometers and be capable of receiving container ships of up to 100,000 tons and bulk cargo vessels of up to 160,000 tons.

Once in operation, the port is expected to meet the Mekong Delta’s transport and export-import demands, particularly for goods and agricultural products. Tran De is set to become a regional economic hub for industrial development, trade and services, logistics, and high-tech agriculture.

Tran De is also home to one of the 15 largest fishing ports in Vietnam, offering a large fishing ground and complete logistics infrastructure. Its strategic location near National Highways 1A, 60, and Nam Song Hau, along with a network of provincial roads, supports the formation of a coastal economic corridor.

These favorable conditions have attracted a growing number of fishing vessels to call at the port and use local maritime logistics services.
