HCMC – Tran Thanh Man, permanent vice chairman of the National Assembly (NA), has been assigned to run the operations of the NA and the NA Standing Committee, replacing Vuong Dinh Hue, who was relieved of his duties as chairman and deputy of the NA today afternoon.
After the NA’s seventh extraordinary session this afternoon, May 2, NA Secretary General Bui Van Cuong issued a statement regarding the assignment of running the NA and the NA Standing Committee of Vietnam.
“The NA Standing Committee has assigned Tran Thanh Man, member of the Politburo and permanent NA vice chairman, to run the NA Standing Committee and the NA of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam until a new chairman of the 15th NA is elected,” the NA wrote on its website.
Tran Thanh Man, 62, hails from Hau Giang Province and has served as a member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) for three terms (from term 11 to term 13), Secretary of the PCC for the 12th term, a member of the Politburo for the 13th term, and a NA delegate for three terms (13th-15th).
Currently, the NA has four vice chairmen, including Tran Thanh Man, Nguyen Duc Hai, Nguyen Khac Dinh, and Tran Quang Phuong.
At its extraordinary session in Hanoi today afternoon, the NA relieved Vuong Dinh Hue from his duties as chairman of the the NA and as NA deputy.
During the session, the NA considered letting 67-year-old Vuong Dinh Hue leave as chairman of the legislature for the 2021-2026 term and as a deputy of the 15th NA.
After listening to reports, presentations and remarks by Vuong Dinh Hue, the National Assembly voted in a secret ballot for a resolution to dismiss him from his duties as NA chairman for the term 2021-2026, member of the National Defense and Security Council, and deputy of the 15th NA from the Haiphong City delegation.
On April 26, the Party Central Committee of the 13th term met to consider Hue’s resignation from his positions and retirement. The Office of the Party Central Party issued a statement acknowledging Vuong Dinh Hue as a key leadership figure of the Party and the State, who was thoroughly trained and grew from grassroots levels and held many important leadership positions in both the Party and the State.
According to reports from the Central Inspection Committee and other relevant agencies, Hue violated the regulations on what Party members must not do, the regulations on responsibility of officials and Party members to act as role models, especially members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Party Central Committee. He was also accountable as a leader according to the Party and state laws.
These violations and shortcomings caused negative public opinion and affected the reputation of the Party, the State, and Hue personally. Recognizing his responsibilities to the Party, the State, and the people, he tendered his resignation from the assigned positions.
Based on current regulations of the Party and the State, and considering Vuong Dinh Hue’s request, the Party Central Committee agreed to allow him to resign from his positions as member of the Politburo, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, and chairman of the NA for the 2021-2026 term.
