HCMC – Transport fees have risen by as much as 50% in some areas as higher fuel prices have sent logistics costs soaring, the Department for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN).
The sharpest increases have been recorded in mountainous provinces such as Lai Chau, Dien Bien and Lao Cai, where difficult terrain and higher fuel consumption have driven up freight rates on some routes by up to 50%.
Across the country, seven provinces and cities have reported increases above 30%. Ninh Binh has seen rates rising 50%, while Quang Ninh and Vinh Long have recorded a spike of up to 33.3%. Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Hue and Ca Mau have posted increases ranging from 30% to 33%.
Another 11 localities have reported increases of 10% to 30%. In HCMC, rates typically have risen 10-20%, while Haiphong has reported increases of 15-30%. Other provinces, including Can Tho, Thanh Hoa and Dong Nai, have recorded similar adjustments.
Cargo and container transport costs have picked up 10-24% on average in Haiphong and Quang Ninh.
Fuel accounts for about 30% to 40% of road transport costs, so price changes directly affect operating expenses. Many transport firms have had difficulty maintaining operations profitably.
Rail transport operators have also adjusted prices. The Railway Transport Joint Stock Company has raised passenger fares by 10% and freight rates by 15% compared with previous levels, according to a March 9 announcement.
