HCMC – The Ministry of Transport has approved a VND700-billion project to upgrade the Quy Nhon Port navigational channel, reported the local media.
The project aims to accommodate vessels weighing up to 50,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT). Funding for the project will come from the state budget under the medium-term public investment plan for 2021-2025.
Managed by the Maritime Project Management Board under the Ministry of Transport, the upgrade will involve dredging and expanding the channel to a length of 7.16 kilometers, a width of 140 meters, and a depth of 13 meters.
The project will also expand the existing turning basin to a 400-meter diameter, allowing it to handle larger vessels.
A curved section of the channel will be widened to a diameter of 220-235 meters. The entire navigation buoy system will be relocated to fit the new channel layout, and around 4.1 million cubic meters of soil and rock will be dredged as part of the work.
Over VND3 billion will be allocated for land clearance, VND527 billion for construction, VND6.4 billion for project management, and VND32.1 billion for consulting services.
Currently, Quy Nhon Port can handle 30,000 tons of cargo at full load and 50,000 tons at non-full load capacity.
