HCMC – A low-pressure system in the southern waters of the East Sea has strengthened into a tropical depression with level-6 intensity and minimal movement, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
As of 10 a.m. on December 21, the tropical depression’s center was located over the southern East Sea, with sustained winds of 39–49 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching level 8. The system remains nearly stationary.
Over the next 24 to 72 hours, the tropical depression is expected to intensify and move northwest at a speed of 10–15 kilometers per hour, heading toward Vietnam’s southern waters.
From the night of December 23 to 26, the tropical depression, combined with cold air, will bring moderate to heavy rainfall across central and south-central regions, with localized areas experiencing very heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Rainfall in these regions is forecast to range between 100 and 300 mm, with some areas receiving over 500 mm. Additionally, the eastern part of the Central Highlands will see moderate to heavy rain between December 24 and 25, with rainfall amounts typically ranging from 60 to 120 mm, and some areas exceeding 200 mm.
