HCMC – A low-pressure system in the northern waters of the East Sea strengthened into a tropical depression this morning, July 4, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
At around 7 a.m., the tropical depression sustained winds of 49 kilometers per hour, equivalent to level 6, with gusts reaching level 8. It was moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
By 7 a.m. tomorrow, it is expected to strengthen to level 6-7, with gusts at level 8, and be located about 780 kilometers northeast of Vietnam’s Paracel Islands.
By 7 a.m. on July 6, the tropical depression is forecast to change direction toward the east-northeast, picking up speed to 15-20 kilometers per hour. It is expected to strengthen to level 7, with gusts increasing by two levels, as it moves over the southwestern waters of Hainan Island (China).
Under the impact of the tropical depression, the northeastern waters of the northern East Sea will see thunderstorms, rough seas, and strong winds reaching level 6 to 7 at times, with gusts up to level 9. Wave heights are expected to range from 2 to 4 meters.
