HCMC – Tuy Hoa Airport is set for major expansion with a new passenger terminal (T2) and upgraded apron infrastructure, boosting capacity from three million passengers annually in 2021-2030 to five million by 2050.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has written to the Ministry of Construction, seeking approval for the Tuy Hoa Airport’s master plan during 2021-2030 period, with a vision toward 2050, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

Under the plan, the airport will be upgraded to ICAO Code 4C standards in the 2021-2030 period, with a designed capacity of three million passengers per year. Its infrastructure will accommodate aircraft such as the A320, A321, B737 and equivalents, along with certain types of specialized aircraft.

In this phase, the existing taxiway system will be retained, with an additional taxiway to the apron. The aircraft parking area will be expanded to the north and south to provide at least 11 parking stands, in line with the capacity of three million passengers per year.

Terminal T2 will be newly built on an area of over 20,000 square meters, with a capacity of three million passengers per year. Part of Terminal T1 will be temporarily converted into a cargo terminal when needed.

With a vision toward 2050, Tuy Hoa Airport is planned to handle five million passengers annually. The apron will be further expanded to the northwest, increasing the number of parking stands to at least 18.

Terminal T2 will also be expanded into the area of Terminal T1 with an additional 12,000 square meters, raising the total capacity to five million passengers per year. The total land area designated for the airport in 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, is over 691 hectares.

Tuy Hoa Airport served more than 432,000 passengers in 2024, far exceeding the approved capacity of 300,000 passengers per year set for 2025.
