HCMC – Typhoon Kalmaegi, the 13th storm that has hit Vietnam this year, has caused severe damage across the central provinces of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Dak Lak, leaving five people dead, six injured, and hundreds of houses destroyed or damaged.
The Government has decided to provide each of the three hardest-hit provinces with VND50 billion (around US$2 million) in relief funds. Meanwhile, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee has also pledged an initial VND10 billion per province to help local residents overcome difficulties.
Deputy PM Ha noted that despite Kalmaegi’s strong intensity, damages were minimized thanks to proactive evacuation measures, timely vessel sheltering, and close coordination among forces under the four-on-the-spot disaster response principle. He emphasized that public awareness and cooperation between residents, businesses, and authorities have improved significantly in responding to natural disasters.
He urged local authorities to continue supporting affected households, especially those in flooded areas, by clearing fallen trees, restoring traffic, and ensuring the rapid resumption of power and water supplies. Emergency housing assistance and long-term resettlement plans must also be implemented promptly for families whose homes collapsed or were severely damaged.
Deputy PM Ha further requested local governments to mobilize all available resources, equipment, and social organizations to participate in relief operations, with priority given to policy-beneficiary families, low-income households, and the elderly living alone.
