HCMC – Typhoon Kalmaegi entered the East Sea early on November 5 as the 13th storm to affect Vietnam this year. It is forecast to intensify to level 14, with gusts of up to level 17.

At 4 a.m. today, the typhoon’s center was located over the eastern waters of the central East Sea, about 560 kilometers east of Southwest Cay Island, with maximum sustained winds near the eye reaching level 13 (134-149 km/h) and gusts up to level 16.

Over the next 24 hours, the typhoon is forecast to move west-northwest at around 25 kilometers per hour and continue to intensify.

By 4 a.m. on November 6, its center is expected to be located over the northern waters of Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, about 550 kilometers east-southeast of the coast of Gia Lai Province.

The typhoon is forecast to continue moving toward the coastal waters of the central and south-central provinces. Starting tomorrow night, it is likely to directly affect areas from Danang to Khanh Hoa.

Due to the storm’s influence, the central part of the East Sea, including the northern waters of the Truong Sa Archipelago, will see strong winds of level 7–8, increasing to level 9–11, and up to level 12–14 with gusts reaching level 17 near the storm’s center.

From the early morning of November 6, strong winds are expected over the coastal waters from Danang to Khanh Hoa. Along the coastal areas from Hue to Dak Lak, waves are forecast to reach 4-6 meters.

From the evening of November 6, residents in the coastal areas from Hue to Dak Lak should be alert to rising sea levels combined with high waves, which may lead to flooding in low-lying areas.
