Typhoon Trami to dump heavy rain on central Vietnam

By Truc Dao

Must read

HCMC – Typhoon Trami is expected to bring heavy rainfall to central Vietnam, particularly from Ha Tinh Province to Binh Dinh Province and parts of the northern Central Highlands, with severe downpours forecast from October 26 to October 28.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has predicted rainfall between 300-500 mm for areas from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai Province, with some areas potentially seeing over 700 mm.

Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Binh Dinh provinces, and parts of the northern Central Highlands are expected to receive 100-200 mm, with certain spots possibly exceeding 300 mm.

As of 4 a.m. on October 26, Trami was spotted 230 km east-northeast of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago, with sustained winds of 103-117 km/h (level 11) and gusts reaching up to level 16. The storm is moving westward at approximately 20 km/h but is expected to shift eastward by October 29, slowing to about 10 km/h as it weakens.

Officials have warned of severe weather conditions for ships in the region, including thunderstorms, strong winds, and high waves. Provinces from Quang Tri to Quang Nam may face damage to sea dikes and embankments due to large waves and potential storm surges.
