HCMC – U.S.-based Excelerate Energy has urged the Vietnamese Government to facilitate its plan to develop LNG infrastructure in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Steven Kobos, President and CEO of Excelerate Energy, on May 29. The company is a leading U.S. firm in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector, operating in over 60 countries and handling about one-sixth of the United States’ daily LNG exports.

Kobos said the company has signed an agreement with PVGas to arrange a long-term LNG supply from the U.S. for the Vietnamese market.

He called on the Government to direct relevant ministries and local authorities to support the company’s investment in LNG infrastructure, ensure a stable LNG supply, and facilitate the establishment of a joint venture with a Vietnamese partner.

The aim, he noted, is to expand market presence and position Vietnam as an LNG distribution hub for the ASEAN region.

In response, PM Pham Minh Chinh threw his support behind Excelerate Energy’s proposal to position Vietnam as a regional LNG distribution hub.

He urged the company to continue exploring opportunities to expand operations and deepen collaboration with Vietnamese partners, particularly in providing technology solutions and long-term LNG supply.

These efforts, he said, would contribute to Vietnam’s energy security and help promote balanced trade between Vietnam and the U.S.

The PM expressed hope that Excelerate Energy would develop an LNG supply chain in Vietnam and work with local partners to invest in the construction of smart, modern LNG storage facilities this year or in 2026.
