HCMC – A US$2-billion tourism-casino project in Van Don, Quang Ninh Province is expected to be completed by 2032.
According to the environmental impact assessment report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Vietnamese conglomerate Sun Group would develop the nearly-245-hectare premium integrated tourism complex in the Van Don Economic Zone, with one side bordering the sea.
The project would use primarily forest land, with the rest designated for commercial services, undeveloped areas, and water surface.
The casino complex will cover more than 26 hectares, comprising a 25-story tower above ground and three basements. It is designed to accommodate about 214 gaming tables and 2,140 machines.
Two land lots covering about 12 hectares will be allocated for resort hotels, with a maximum height of 30 stories above ground and three basements, while the resort area will consist of seven plots, each with five stories above ground and two basements.
The project will be developed in three phases. Zone 1, spanning nearly 37 hectares, will include a high-rise hotel with a casino, a commercial and service center, resort facilities, convention and conference venues, and other premium entertainment amenities.
Zone 2, covering around 74 hectares, will include a multifunctional hotel complex, a financial–commercial center, conference facilities, offices, entertainment venues, performing arts spaces, and wellness services.
Zone 3, spanning over 71 hectares, is planned for low-rise commercial service areas, hotels and resorts, exhibition spaces, a waterfront theater, a museum, a festival street, and conference tourism facilities.
The complex has a maximum operating term of 70 years, with construction expected to take nine years and full operations slated for the second quarter of 2032.
The total investment is about US$2 billion. During its operation, the project aims to contribute over VND228 trillion (around US$9.6 billion) to the provincial budget and create jobs for around 6,000 workers.
