HCMC – Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien called for deeper Vietnam-U.S. cooperation under the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations, aiming to foster a sustainable and balanced trade relationship.
Minister Dien, head of Vietnam’s trade negotiation team, held a working session with U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper on May 7 to advance talks on bilateral economic and trade issues.
He called on the U.S. to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership, aiming to support each country’s growth and promote regional stability.
Dien also emphasized the need to boost Vietnam-U.S. trade in a balanced, sustainable, and long-term manner, avoiding adverse impacts on relations with other partners, and aligning with the direction agreed upon by the two countries’ top leaders.
The minister noted that the complementary nature of the Vietnamese and U.S. economies is a key factor driving the continued growth of bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
Both sides should help businesses quickly overcome obstacles and facilitate joint projects as well as the exchange of essential, complementary goods, he said.
These practical measures would help strengthen economic, trade, and investment ties between the two countries and contribute to a more balanced, harmonious, and sustainable trade relationship.
Ambassador Marc E. Knapper praised Vietnam’s proactive and constructive approach.
He said the United States’ new trade policy aims to further promote trade and investment while safeguarding economic security, national security, and employment for American workers, and is not intended to harm partner countries.
Despite ongoing challenges, the ambassador expressed confidence that negotiations between the two countries would yield positive outcomes that benefit both the public and the business community.
