HCMC – The national-flag carrier Vietnam Airlines took delivery of a Boeing 787-10 aircraft for operation this morning, July 31, according to local media reports.

This is the fifth Boeing 787-10 dreamliner that Vietnam Airlines has received, bringing the total number of wide-body aircraft in the airline’s fleet to 30.

The Boeing 787-10 is currently the largest passenger aircraft used in Vietnam, with a length of over 68 meters. With 367 seats available, including 24 in business class and 343 in economy class, the aircraft will help the airline better meet passengers’ increasing demand during the peak summer travel season.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Vietnamese carriers are operating a total of 195 aircraft with air operator certification (AOC) as of July, which is 36 fewer than in the same period last year.

Of these, the number of commercial aircraft utilized by the airlines was 167, a drop of 51 aircraft compared to the year-ago period.

The shortage of aircraft was partly attributed to Pratt & Whitney recalling Airbus A321 NEOs’ engines worldwide for repair. Additionally, several Vietnamese carriers, such as Pacific Airlines and Bamboo Airways, have reduced their fleets due to supply chain disruptions and workforce shortages.
