HCMC – Vietnam remained Singapore’s third-largest seafood supplier last year, behind Malaysia and Indonesia.

According to data from Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, Singapore imported seafood worth SGD125.5 million (US$97.7 million) from Vietnam in 2025, up 10.7% year-on-year. Vietnamese products accounted for 10.3% of Singapore’s total seafood imports.

Vietnamese chilled and frozen fish fillets and fish meat (HS0304) remained the country’s strongest export category to Singapore. Imports of this group reached SGD63 million (US$49 million), a 4.8% increase from 2024, representing 29.7% market share. Vietnam currently holds a dominant position in this segment.

Two other major export categories also recorded robust growth. Imports of crustaceans, processed or unprocessed (HS0306), rose 25.4% to SGD28.6 million (US$22.3 million), accounting for 9.8% market share. Meanwhile, mollusks, processed or unprocessed (HS0307), increased 35.8% to SGD15.8 million (US$12.3 million), with an 11.4% share.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore said the country is expected to maintain a high market share in fish fillets and fish meat as Singapore’s overall seafood import demand remains stable.

However, competition is intensifying in other segments, particularly crustaceans and mollusks. Vietnamese exporters face strong rivalry from suppliers in Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as from China, Japan, and Norway.

Norway currently leads Singapore’s imports of fresh or chilled fish excluding fillets (HS0302), holding 42.5% market share. China overtook Norway in the third quarter of 2025 to become Singapore’s fourth-largest seafood supplier, just behind Vietnam, leveraging its strength in crustaceans and mollusks. Japan also moved ahead of Norway to rank fifth, with competitive exports of frozen fish excluding fillets (HS0303) and mollusks.

Singapore’s total seafood imports reached SGD1.2 billion (US$934 million) in 2025, up 4.2% from 2024. Demand remained relatively balanced across four major product groups: fresh or chilled fish excluding fillets, frozen fish excluding fillets, fish fillets and fish meat, and crustaceans. Each group recorded annual import value exceeding SGD200 million.

Crustaceans emerged as the largest import category, with total imports of SGD292.8 million (US$227.8 million), accounting for 24% of Singapore’s total seafood imports. All four major categories posted average growth of 5.6% year-on-year in 2025.

Singapore also imported smaller volumes of live fish, processed fish, mollusks, and other aquatic invertebrates. Among these, mollusks recorded the highest value at SGD139.5 million (US$108.6 million).

Imports of other aquatic invertebrates excluding crustaceans and mollusks remained the smallest segment, totaling SGD25.5 million (US$19.8 million). This category fell nearly 20% year-on-year, following a 21% drop in 2024.
