HCMC – A total of 500 deputies have been elected to the 16th National Assembly, following a nationwide vote with a turnout of 99.7%, the National Election Council said on March 21.

Nguyen Thi Thanh, vice chairwoman of the National Assembly, chaired a press briefing to release the council’s resolution on the election results and the list of elected deputies.

Nearly 76.2 million voters cast ballots, according to a preliminary report. No constituencies were required to hold re-elections.

Of the 500 deputies, 214 were nominated by central agencies and organizations, while 286 represent localities, accounting for 56.6%.

The new legislature includes, for the first time, a representative from the O Du ethnic group. Women make up 30% of elected deputies.

Authorities will complete procedures to finalize the list. If no complaints are filed, elected deputies will be officially certified in line with regulations.

The first session of the 16th National Assembly is scheduled for April 6 to finalize personnel and begin legislative work.
