Vietnam, China issue joint statement on strengthening bilateral ties

HCMC – Vietnam and China have issued a joint statement on further deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations and building a strategic community with a shared future, according to the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).

The joint statement was issued today, August 20, as Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam wrapped up his August 18-20 state visit to China.

Cconsisting of 12 sections, the statement places a strong emphasis on continuously deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and jointly build a strategic China-Vietnam community of “shared future”.

The Chinese side emphasizes a steadfast friendly policy towards Vietnam while Vietnam asserts that the Vietnam-China relationship is a top priority in its independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy.

Both sides stressed the importance of faithfully implementing their shared agreements and outcomes from high-level bilateral visits, as well as promoting the building of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future to achieve substantial results, striving for the happiness of the people of both nations, and for the noble cause of peace and progress for humanity.

They affirmed that defense and security cooperation is one of the pillars of their relationship, agreeing to enhance defense and security cooperation and strengthen mechanisms between the two countries’ Ministries of Public Security.

Vietnam and China agreed to promote the strategic linkage between China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” and Vietnam’s “Two Corridors and One Economic Belt” framework, accelerate “hard connectivity” in railways, expressways, and border infrastructure, and upgrade “soft connectivity” in smart customs.

China agreed to provide support for Vietnam to develop a master plan for standard-gauge railways from Lang Son to Hanoi and from Mong Cai to Halong and Haiphong, as well as to build a feasibility study report for the standard-gauge railway from Lao Cai to Hanoi and Haiphong.

The two nations encourage and support businesses to invest in each other’s countries, utilize e-commerce platforms, trade fairs, and exhibitions, enhance customs cooperation, and increase the export of each country’s key products to the other. China is also committed to assisting Vietnam in establishing additional trade promotion offices in various regions of China.

They agreed to designate 2025 as the “Year for Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange” and will jointly organize a series of activities to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

On the afternoon of August 20, Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam returned to Hanoi, concluding his state visit to China. The visit was a great success on all fronts.
