HCMC — Rail freight volume between Vietnam and China soared over 280% in the first half of this year, driven by increased train frequency and growing cross-border trade demand, according to China Railway Nanning Group under the China Railway Group.
A total of 18,870 export containers were transported from China’s Guangxi region to Vietnam during the period, up 283% year-on-year, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
Shipments included 2,528 TEUs of auto parts and 4,580 TEUs of medium-density fiberboard, marking respective increases of 100% and 398%. Components from provinces such as Jiangsu and Guangdong were transported to Nanning International Railway Port before moving onward to Vietnam.
To meet rising demand, Chinese authorities raised each train’s haulage capacity from 1,000 to 1,300 tons, a 30% increase. Weekly train trips on the Nanning–Yen Vien route climbed from five to 14, cutting travel time to 14 hours.
A streamlined customs and logistics system has also reduced documentation processing times to under five minutes.
Over 380 product types from 25 Chinese provinces and cities are now shipped via this route. Destinations include Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and other ASEAN countries.
The expanded network is part of China’s effort to strengthen trade ties with Southeast Asia through enhanced rail connectivity.
