HCMC – Vietnam and the Czech Republic have elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership, as announced in a joint statement during Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to the Czech Republic from January 18 to 20.
The visit focused on strengthening political, economic, and diplomatic ties. Both nations agreed to increase high-level exchanges and establish a strategic dialogue mechanism led by their foreign ministries to address diplomacy, defense, and security matters.
Economic cooperation emerged as a cornerstone of the upgraded partnership. Both sides committed to enhancing the role of the Vietnam-Czech Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation. Plans include forming specialized subcommittees to review and implement agreements, aiming to boost trade, investment, and industrial collaboration.
Market access facilitation and expanded cooperation in infrastructure development, renewable energy, green technology, and the automotive industry were highlighted as priorities. Additional focus areas include pharmaceuticals, mining, and machinery.
Agricultural collaboration will also play a significant role in the partnership. The two countries intend to share information on food safety and quality standards in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. They aim to build agricultural supply chains and promote joint research on biotechnology, livestock, and feed production.
Environmental initiatives were another key focus, with commitments to collaborate in water management, waste treatment, and clean energy technologies, emphasizing the transfer of advanced environmental solutions.
The governments pledged to support businesses and foster stronger trade relations in line with the strategic partnership’s objectives.
