HCMC – The U.S. dollar continued to soar against the Vietnamese dong to an all-time high of over VND25,300 per dollar at commercial banks, according to local media.
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) today, April 16, raised the reference exchange rate to VND24,141 per dollar, up by VND45 against yesterday. Banks are allowed to trade the greenback within a band of 5% on either side of the reference rate, or between VND22,934 and VND25,348.
Exchange rates at commercial banks are currently at their highest levels ever.
Vietcombank raised its dong-dollar exchange rate to VND24,978 for buying and VND25,348 for selling, up by VND48 compared to the previous day.
At Eximbank, the exchange rate is capped at VND25,036 per dollar for buying and VND25,346 for selling.
So far this year, the dollar has shot up by nearly VND930, or 3.8%, against the dong at commercial banks.
