HCMC – Vietnam exported 92,800 tons of tea in the first eight months of this year, generating US$162.62 million (about VND4 trillion) in revrnue, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
Vietnam’s tea products are exported to over 70 countries and territories, with Pakistan remaining the largest market, contributing US$62.3 million—an increase of 11.3% over the same period last year.
Tea exports to China reached US$13.2 million, more than double the amount from the same period last year, while shipments to the U.S. grew to nearly US$8 million.
Tea exports to Pakistan fetched the highest price, averaging over US$2,000 per ton. In contrast, prices for the U.S. and European markets ranged between US$1,600 and US$1,800 per ton.
Despite China tripling its import volume, the price dropped by nearly 40% to US$1,458 per ton.
Vietnam’s tea exporters are optimistic about the rest of this year, with market demand increasing by as much as 230%. They aim to surpass the 2011 record of US$229 million by the year-end.
Vietnam’s tea-growing regions span 34 provinces and cities, covering a total of 130,000 hectares. Major growing areas include Thai Nguyen (22,300 ha), Ha Giang (21,500 ha), Lam Dong (10,800 ha), and Phu Tho (16,100 ha).
