HCMC – The Ministry of Construction has called on Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to develop a legal and technical framework to support the installation of rooftop solar panels at airports nationwide.

In a directive sent to ACV, the ministry asked the state-owned airport operator to study international standards and best practices, and to propose a detailed plan to enable the rollout of solar power projects across the country’s airport network, according to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

The proposal should assess the safety and operational impact of installing solar panels on airport rooftops, especially in relation to flight control and air traffic management. ACV has been tasked with referencing both international experience and domestic case studies to support its recommendations.

ACV had earlier submitted a request to the Ministry of Construction and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam seeking approval in principle for solar energy investments at airports.

The corporation has conducted a preliminary assessment indicating that rooftop solar installations do not interfere with aviation safety or operations. The systems are also expected to help reduce electricity costs and improve building efficiency by lowering roof temperatures.

ACV said that accelerating renewable energy development at airports is both necessary and urgent in the current energy context.
