HCMC – The total number of domestic cybersecurity specialists available is only 50,000 against the demand of 700,000, meaning a severe shortage of manpower in the data security sector.

At a cybersecurity training workshop in Vietnam on August 30, it was reported that cybersecurity specialists are now the most sought-after on the labor market.

Many large enterprises are willing to pay a lavish salary to protect data and fix malware security.

Thus, ample opportunities and high salaries are offered to database security specialists, information security consultants and cybercrime investigators.

Pham Duy Trung, who works at the Vietnam Academy of Cryptography Techniques, said the cybersecurity worker shortage is a global issue, and not limited to only Vietnam.

He added the total number of data security engineers in 2020 was 50,000.

However, the demand for cybersecurity employees rose further to roughly 700,000 after only one year and the shortage is forecast to last for several years.

Nguyen Manh Luat, founder and director of CyberJutsu Academy, said 2022 saw a high demand for cybersecurity specialists.

The average monthly salary of the engineers with three to five years of experience was in the range of VND15-40 million, and VND8-15 million for freshers.

Sharing Luat’s opinion, Truong Duc Luong, board chairman of Vietnam Cybersecurity Joint Stock Company said that high salaries are offered in the data security industry due to its high demand in the job market.

He noted that in addition to professionalism, candidates need to be equiped with soft skills and expand their knowledge.
