HCMC – Domestic gold prices continued their rapid ascent on Wednesday morning, with both SJC bars and gold rings surpassing VND187 million per tael, tracking gains in global markets.
As of 9:15 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company, Doji and others quoted SJC gold bars at VND184.2–187.2 million (buy/sell), up VND1.1 million from the March 10 close. Gold rings followed suit, hitting VND187 million per tael. The buy-sell spread remained wide, at VND2.8–3 million per tael.
Global gold traded at around US$5,210 per ounce. When converted, SJC gold is still VND22.1 million higher than world prices based on the foreign exchange rate quotations by Vietcombank.
About the dollar, the State Bank of Vietnam this morning set the central foreign exchange rate at VND25,059 per dollar, with banks like Vietcombank quoting the greenback at VND25,981 per dollar for buying and VND26,311 for selling.
