HCMC – Vietnam has handed over VND385 billion in the first tranche of aid to the Cuban people, witnessed by Party General Secretary To Lam and Cuban First Secretary and President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
During their talks on September 1, Party General Secretary To Lam informed President Miguel Diaz-Canel that a 65-day nationwide campaign titled 65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Solidarity had attracted nearly two million participants, raising approximately VND400 billion.
He said the campaign was a vivid reflection of the enduring solidarity and brotherhood between the two parties, states, and peoples.
The two leaders then witnessed the handover of the first tranche of VND385 billion in aid. They also attended the signing of the minutes of the 42nd session of the Intergovernmental Committee and agreements on cooperation in food production, healthcare, archives, and biotechnology.
President Diaz-Canel expressed his gratitude for the warmth of the Vietnamese people during his visit, as well as their generous support through the recent fundraising campaign for Cuba.
He affirmed that Vietnam’s achievements over 80 years of nation-building and defense serve as a great source of inspiration and encouragement for the Cuban people at this time.
Party General Secretary To Lam reiterated that Vietnam has always considered solidarity with and support for Cuba a matter of conscience and responsibility.
The two leaders agreed to further deepen economic, trade, and investment ties, particularly in strategic areas endorsed by the two countries’ top leadership, including agriculture, solar energy, and biotechnology-pharmaceuticals.
Cuba pledged to facilitate Vietnamese businesses investing and operating in the country, especially in rice production and new agricultural models, to help Cuba boost local food production and ensure food security—a critical factor for sustainable development in the current context.
Both sides also agreed to encourage joint ventures in pharmaceutical production, technology transfer of biological and chemical drugs from Cuba, and cooperation in research and development of high-tech pharmaceuticals in Vietnam to provide safe and effective medical products.
President Miguel Diaz-Canel is paying a state visit to Vietnam starting August 31. Tomorrow, he will attend a grand ceremony for celebrating the 80th anniversaries of the August Revolution and National Day.
