HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported 3,979 fresh Covid-19 cases this morning, July 25, including six imported cases and 3,973 domestic infections in 21 provinces and cities across Vietnam.
Among the locally-infected cases, there were 922 cases whose source of transmission was unknown.
The current biggest coronavirus hotspot of HCMC accounted for 2,328 cases. The neigboring province of Binh Duong reported 881 cases. Tien Giang, Dong Nai, and Tay Ninh provinces had 218, 134, and 127 cases, respectively. The rest were reported in 16 other provinces and cities.
Overall, during the latest resurgence of Covid-19 since April 27, Vietnam has reported 91,114 domestic infections in 62 of the country’s 63 provinces and cities.
The ministry also announced that three more million doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine donated by the U.S. through the COVAX Facility arrived in Vietnam early this morning.
Earlier, the U.S. Government had offered two million doses of the Moderna vaccine to Vietnam, also via the COVAX Facility. The first shipment arrived in Vietnam on July 10.
After receiving the vaccine doses, the Health Ministry distributed the two million doses to 53 provinces and cities, police and military forces, and 20 hospitals and institutes under the ministry.
To date, Vietnam has received over 14.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines and has allocated them to provinces and cities nationwide. Of this, southern localities were given over 4.8 million doses.
In related news, 21 people after attending a funeral in Tan Loc Commune, Tam Binh District in the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long were confirmed infected with Covid-19, prompting the authorities to immediately lockdown four hamlets in the commune to prevent the spread of the disease, Van Cong Minh, director of the provincial Health Department, told Tuoi Tre Online last night.
The four hamlets subject to the lockdown order have 1,371 households with 5,405 residents. The commune’s chairperson was told to coordinate with the local health authority and the relevant agencies to set up Covid-19 checkpoints in lockdown areas and implement contact tracing works.
To date, Vinh Long has reported a total of 586 coronavirus cases in the latest outbreak.
In another development, Ben Tre, another province in the delta, yesterday evening reported two more Covid-19 fatalities at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Hospital, raising the province’s Covid-19 death toll to three cases as of now. The two deceased were local residents of Ba Tri District, with one of them having underlying health problems.
