Born from a fertilized egg frozen 11 years ago
In 2014, a Hanoian woman, then 26 years old, underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) at the IVF Center at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology and gave birth to her first child, a boy. The other embryos have been protected at the center ever since.
In January this year, the young mother came back to the IVF Center, where all her embryos were still kept in good condition. Doctors at the center explained both the advantage and risk of conducting embryo implantation for her. The woman then decided to undergo such an implantation with her frozen embryo.
The implantation using the fertilized egg frozen 11 years ago for the mother was successful right at the first attempt. This special case was supervised by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Anh, director of the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
On August 22, a healthy girl weighing 3.3kg was born at the hospital to the joy of the mother, doctors and nurses, tuoitre.vn reported.
